Natgeo – Brazilian biomes
Brazilian biomes special website by National Geographic
award-winning project on Brasil Design Awards
Context
How about exploring the exuberant biodiversity of the ecosystems that form the Amazon, Caatinga, Cerrado, Atlantic Forest, Pantanal and Pampa?
With this premise, National Geographic Brasil invited us to participate in "Natgeo Ilustra - Biomas", which brought information about Brazilian biomes with testimonies and expert studies. The project has short animations from each biome and a special online page for which we were responsible, with deeper reports, serving as a guide to Brazilian biomes.
Challenge
To face this challenge, Grande Circular and Natgeo teams worked in a fluid and collaborative way, which greatly facilitated the process. We designed the pages together, thinking first about the structure, navigation, interactions and arrangement of information through prototypes. After that, we started visual solutions and implementation. The visual language concept created by creative director Keryma Lourenço, who also designed the project and produced the animations, served as a reference for the entire style guide we created for the interface, such as colors, typography and visual elements.
Each biome has cards with information about species of fauna and flora that deserve to be highlighted. We also created infographics for other important information, such as land use and what is left of the native vegetation.
Results
The reports were presented in a simple to navigate interface, with a playful and interactive language.
We have recently witnessed an unprecedented destruction of part of Brazilian biomes. Therefore, it is essential to inform and clarify the importance of preserving this biodiversity, which is the great wealth of Brazil. Help by sharing this content! You can visit the special at the link below.
